29-Window VW Type 2

The year on these is irrelevant. Aside from the place they've carved out for themselves in the American cultural landscape, Type 2 Transporters aren't overly interesting. This one, however, seems to have the top 18" of a smaller van grafted onto the top of it, which has crudely-installed windows that function as a clerestory with an acrylic bubble skylight to top the whole thing off. The baseball shifter, Celtic knot and obligatory Dead decals round the package out nicely.

  1. Clerestory, not "clearstory", jeez!

I wonder what the donor van was?

    1. aaaand another few seconds of poking around Merriam-Webster & I've got egg on my face. "Clearstory" is an acceptable variation. Apologies for the pedantry.

    2. Misspelling noted and corrected, Mr.Presley.

I've been trying to figure out what the donor was as well. Any ideas?
The rain gutter indicates that it wasn't a home-brewed concoction, and it feels as if what is now is the back was formerly the front of whatever vehicle it came off of.

    4. Maybe some kind of little Euro van thing that you see here ever so rarely, or possibly a kei truck? Beyond that, I got nothin'.

  4. Just spotted this bus yesterday in SF on Fulton & Park Presidio by Golden Gate Park!

I may have contracted tetanus just from looking.
