  1. What makes these vehicles so capable is that they were designed to be light weight for rapid transport on rough roads. They have fully independent suspension with coil springs and a center tube chassis much like a VW beetle. This means they ride smooth on potholed city streets and have great ground clearance. I have a 1975 710M (same body style as the one shown) and it is arguably the best riding vehicle I have been in for Atlanta's roads. Top speed is 60 or so due to only 80 horsepower and high gear ratios. But I was getting 16 mpg before I lost a cylinder which is great for a 1 ton rated military truck from the 70's. Anyway, Excellent peep, really enjoy this blog!
