EYES ON THE STREET
What makes these vehicles so capable is that they were designed to be light weight for rapid transport on rough roads. They have fully independent suspension with coil springs and a center tube chassis much like a VW beetle. This means they ride smooth on potholed city streets and have great ground clearance. I have a 1975 710M (same body style as the one shown) and it is arguably the best riding vehicle I have been in for Atlanta's roads. Top speed is 60 or so due to only 80 horsepower and high gear ratios. But I was getting 16 mpg before I lost a cylinder which is great for a 1 ton rated military truck from the 70's. Anyway, Excellent peep, really enjoy this blog!
